The workshop will be April 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Ophelia Steen Family and Health Services Center in Hammond, and is designed for K-12 urban educators, teacher educators, UTEP students, and individuals interested in improving the quality of education for children with diverse needs.
Presenters will discuss approaches to teaching urban students with diverse cultural backgrounds with topics including, Improving Math and Science Instruction, Improving the Quality of Special Education, Curriculum and Testing Standards in Bilingual Education, and Infusing Technology into the Core Curriculum.
UTEP is a multi-school district and university consortium for school-based professional preparation and development. It offers an opportunity to persons with bachelor degrees in fields outside of education to become certified as secondary school teachers. The program prepares teachers for the challenges encountered in today's urban classrooms, and ensures that entry-level teachers are exposed to current and effective modes of teaching.
