VISCLOSKY,
INDIANA UNIVERSITY NORTHWEST TEAM UP FOR
STEEL
CRISIS SUMMIT ON APRIL 24, 2001
Washington, DC – On Tuesday, April 24, 2001, Indiana University Northwest (IUN) will
be presenting a conference entitled “The American Steel Industry in Crisis” in
conjunction with Congressman Pete
Visclosky (IN-01), Vice-Chairman of the
Congressional Steel Caucus. The summit,
which will take place beginning at 7:45 a.m. in the Savannah Center Auditorium
on the campus of IUN, will further the ongoing dialogue about how best to
tackle the steel import crisis that continues to plague the domestic steel
industry.
“Illegally traded steel has created nothing short
of an emergency situation for the domestic steel industry and the communities
that it supports nationwide, including those in Northwest Indiana”
Congressman Vislcosky said. “As a
graduate of Indiana University Northwest, I am thrilled to partner with the IUN
School of Business and Economics in hosting this valuable summit on the plight
of the domestic steel industry. Our distinguished panel of guests will present
a well-rounded perspective on the steel crisis, and what it means to families
throughout the nation.”
“This is a valuable opportunity for Northwest Indiana leaders and citizens to better understand how the steel crisis is effecting us as a region, and as a nation,” said Randy Jacobs, executive dean of the IU Northwest School of Business. “The university and the School of Business are extremely excited to be working with Pete in providing the forum for this critical issue. We feel it is very important to work collaboratively with others in the region to help provide information to the community that generates awareness and dialogue influencing our quality of life."
