Indiana University Northwest Chancellor Bruce W. Bergland recently announced the appointment of local business leader, Randy Jacobs, as Executive Dean for the university's School of Business and Economics. A resident of Valparaiso, Jacobs will be primarily responsible for building relationships with the Northwest Indiana business community, and work with the School in the development of programs and efforts that serve the needs of the community, as well as the students. He will also work closely with the School of Business and Economics dean, Anna Rominger.
Before coming to IU Northwest, Jacobs served in various executive capacities at the Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) since 1984. Most recently, he served as Director of Economic Development, responsible for the promotion and economic growth within the company's service area. Among his accomplishments in this position was attracting nearly 400 corporations to Northern Indiana, resulting in over 31,000 jobs. He also served as Director of Major Accounts and Director of Public Relations during his tenure at NIPSCO.
"I am very happy to have Randy at IU Northwest. His stature and visibility in the business community is a benefit to our institution," says Dr. Bergland. "Through his years of service in the community, and particularly through his most recent position at NIPSCO, he has an in-depth understanding of businesses in the region, as well as the needs of those businesses. I look forward to the positive outcomes this relationship will bring."
The IU Northwest School of Business and Economics will host a breakfast for Northwest Indiana business and community leaders on March 21 to welcome Jacobs, introduce new business school curriculum and programs, as well as present future goals for the school.
