The Division of Social Workat Indiana University Northwest is lookingfor individuals living with HIV (PLWH) in Lake, Porter and LaPorte countiesto complete a needs assessmentsurvey. The division recently received a grant from the Indiana MinorityHealth Coalition to conduct the assessment for the RyanWhite HIV Title III Planning Grant.
“The purpose of the study is to learn about HIV/AIDS prevention, aswell as the service needs in the communities of Lake, Porter and LaPortecounties,” says Dr. Denise Travis, assistant professor in social work at IU Northwest. “Participatingin the survey may help to identify those factors that interfere with theprevention of acquiring the HIV virus or access to necessary services.”
According to Travis, the needs assessment is a vital component to theoverall planning process for the Lake County Ryan White HIV Title III AdvisoryCouncil. A proposal for early intervention services will be submitted tothe HIV/AIDS Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration.
“The results from participation will be held in strictest confidenceby all individuals involved in this assessment,” says Travis. “Any reportsor publications resulting from the assessment will not identify the participantby name.”
