Thirty-one local high schools will be represented in the grand openingexhibit of the new Indiana UniversityNorthwest Gallery for Contemporary Art from March 5 17. Locatedin the university's new Academic Activities Building, the gallery's FirstAnnual Biennial opening show will be a collection of student photography,sculpture, paintings, drawings and ceramics. High schools included in the show include Andrean, Bishop Noll Institute,Boone, Calumet, Central, Chesterton, Clark, Crown Point, Emerson Schoolfor Performing Arts, Griffith, Hammond, Hanover Central, Gavit, Highland,Hobart, Horace Mann, Kankakee Valley, Lake Central, Kouts, Lew Wallace,Lowell, Merrillville, Morton, Munster, Portage, River Forest, Roosevelt,Thomas Edison, Valparaiso, West Side, and Whiting. The exhibit was chosen especially for the grand opening, and is partof our Shared Vision for the community, says Ann Fritz, gallerydirector. We want the public to know that they are welcome on our beautifulcampus and that there are many events here for everyone to enjoy. The IU Northwest First High School Biennial grand opening celebrationreception will be on Sunday, March 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the new gallery,and is open to the community. Violinist Marvin Ziporyn will perform.
