Quality of Life Indicators at Nov. 3 Press Conference
The Northwest Indiana Quality of Life Council (QLC)will introduce and release a report of key quality of life indicators thatidentify major areas improvement, as well as the progress of the region,particularly in Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties. A press conference tointroduce the information will be Friday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. at the NIRPCand the Northwest Indiana Forum at6100 Southport Road in Portage. There will also be a briefing on a majoreconomic study on Transforming the Economy of Lake County to bereleased on Dec. 1.
According to Dan Lowery, QLC executive director and IndianaUniversity Northwest SPEAprofessor, the indicators represent 12 categories that include economicprosperity, environmental quality, transportation, educational excellence,human services, public safety, health, housing, recreation and tourism,the arts and governance. The QLC Indicators Task Force, chaired by Dr.Dale Alspaugh, Purdue North CentralChancellor Emeritus, along with The HeartlandCenter, began developing the set of indicators in 1999. Darnell Cole,Chancellor, Ivy Tech State Collegeserves as chairman of the QLC.
