With charity in mind, rivals Indiana UniversityNorthwest, Indiana University SouthBend, and Purdue University Calumet,Purdue University North Centralmen’s basketball will kick off their season with games benefiting the SalvationArmy’s holiday fundraising drive.
For the second year in a row, the basketball teams will face off atthis exciting event to help promote the Kettle Campaign of the SalvationArmy, a century-old tradition of assisting families in need duringthe holidays. The basketball competition between IU and Purdue will beNovember 1 at the new IU Northwest SavannahCenter gymnasium. IU South Bend and Purdue North Central will playat 6 p.m., and the IU Northwest and Purdue Calumet game will begin at 8p.m. A donation of $5 is requested to benefit the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army has approximately 10,000 units of service in localcommunities nationwide, and assist more than 30 million people a year.Among the services the organization provides are food for the hungry, companionshipto the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, opportunitiesfor underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance tothe disabled.
