Technician Training, Fitness
Instructor Training and Understanding
Pharmacy Technician Training will be available on Mondays and Wednesdays on campus, September 13 to November 22 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The course prepares the student to enter hospitals, home infusion or retail pharmacies, while working under the supervision of a pharmacist. It includes topics such as medical terminology specific to pharmacy reading and interpreting, and defining drugs by generic or brand names. The class also offers job search skills training. The course will also be offered at the IU Northwest off-campus site in Schererville. Also beginning on September 13 is Fitness Instructor Training. Running through November 15, the Monday evening class will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Community Hospital Fitness Point in Munster. Lectures are divided in two tracks focusing on the personal trainer or the aerobic instructor. Topics include anatomy, physiology, exercise selection, safety, nutrition and injury prevention. Information on how to teach, obtaining certification and job skills is also provided. An overview of the health insurance billing process will be provided with a Understanding Health Insurance Billing class offered on Tuesdays from September 14 from December 7, 6 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday November 6 and 13 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Topics include Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans, Medicare, Medicaid, workers and disability compensation programs, legal considerations, insurance claim life cycle, program terminology, the Standard Data Set, basic insurance claims and Champus/Campva. The three classes are non-credit courses. Graduation from high school,
college or admission to IU Northwest are not required in order to register.
