Nursing Student Annual Convention Comes To NW Indiana

For The First Time

The Indiana Association of Nursing Students convention has never been held in Northwest Indiana – until this year - thanks to the efforts of Indiana University Northwest nursing student and state convention director, Tina Willoughby.

Crediting current Student Nurse Association board members for their support in the decision to move the annual convention from Indianapolis to Northwest Indiana, Willoughby also hopes to also see a bylaw passed that will permit convention sites to be held throughout the state on a rotating basis.

The Specialties of Nursing: Coming Together As A Whole, the theme of the two-day conference, will be February 19 and 20 at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville. Open to all nursing students for a $40 fee, sessions will include presentations on forensic nursing, organ procurement, flight nursing, the March of Dimes and a keynote address by Phyllis Standford, MSN.

"The theme of the convention is very important to us in nursing,” says Willoughby. “This is where it starts, by coming together as a whole - not allowing our areas of specialty separate us as one voice. We are nurses first, then the specialties should come in to play.”

Registration and more information are available for the convention by telephoning Willoughby at 219-874-3592. More information on IU Northwest nursing programs is with the Division of Nursing.
