Individuals preparing for National Board Certification have the opportunity to learn more about the process, as well as learn the steps in preparing portfolios with National Board Certification courses offered through the division. The class meets on Tuesdays from 4 to 6:45 p.m. and includes several full-day workshops and field assignments related to the portfolio. The first 15 applicants will be accepted.
Experienced teachers who teach social studies have the opportunity to acquire graduate credits in Social Studies Methods courses. One of the courses revisits the purpose of high school social studies. During the class, students will evaluate recent developments in content and instructional procedures, as well as develop social studies programs for specific school situations. The second course offers a look at social studies at the elementary level, its goals and functions, and principles that influence the teaching of content, resources and methodology.
