New Director of Financial Aid
In April, Harold Burtley joined the ESC as the new
director of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
Harold had approximately 15 years of responsible, professional-level
experience in financial aid before coming to IU Northwest,
including at the University of Illinois (Chicago) and
the University of Dayton. He had directed financial
aid operations at institutions for a number of years.
Just before coming to campus, Harold had served as
Director of Student Financial Services at Pivot Point
International, Evanston , Illinois . He is a graduate
of I.U. Northwest, with a B.A. in Communication (Organizational
Communication).
We are very pleased to have Harold with us. He is
working on several plans to move the office forward
and to better serve our students.
Ivy Tech Community College Continues
to Offer Its M006 Course Equivalent on Campus
The ESC continues to assist the
IU Northwest Department of Mathematics and Actuarial
Science in a collaborative partnership with Ivy Tech
Community College . The partnership developed as a
result of the Agreement for the
Continued Development of the Regional Campuses of Indiana University
and Purdue University and IUPUI ,
dated May 23, 2001. That agreement led to the elimination
of M006 as an IU Northwest course. M006 was our lowest
level developmental math course. Ivy Tech was given
authority to offer that course equivalent.
Organized last fall and offering its first course
sections this past spring, the partnership allows IU
Northwest students needing Ivy Tech's M006-equivalent
course, MAT 044, to take the course on our campus,
rather than at Ivy Tech. Four sections of this course
are scheduled on campus for the Fall Semester, 2007. Students
needing the course are encouraged to sign up as soon
as possible.
Those with questions regarding MAT 044 course content
and equivalency can address those questions to Jon
Becker, Director of Developmental Mathematics in the
Department of Mathematics & Actuarial Science ( jbecker@iun.edu ),
or to Mary Beth Mitchell, Department Program and Office
Coordinator ( mbmitch@iun.edu ).
Questions regarding the processing of Ivy Tech forms
for MAT 044 can be addressed to the ESC Program Assistant,
Jacqueline Peyton ( jlpeyton@iun.edu ).
