Welcome to another issue of the ESC's online Newsletter !
The purpose of the newsletter is to update the IU
Northwest community on the activities of the administrative
units that make up the Enrollment Services Council,
including Admissions, Bursar, Career Services, Financial
Aid & Scholarships, Placement Testing, Registrar,
and Special Retention Programs.
We are excited about several activities and developments
occurring in Enrollment Services. In this column, I
will highlight just two of them.
Transfer of Work Study Program to Career
Services
Based on a joint recommendation of the Office of Career
Services and the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships,
we have transferred the day-to-day administration of
the Federal Work-Study program from Financial Aid to
Career Services, effective with the summer 2006 term.
Financial Aid will continue to be involved with the
program, particularly with the determination of eligibility
and in the awarding process.
We believe that this administrative change will result
in significantly enhanced personal service to our students.
Career Services will be in a strong position to develop
new Work Study opportunities for our students, including
opportunities to serve in community-based positions.
Also, an element of career development for participating
students will be incorporated into the revised program.
Work Study students will attend an orientation and
have access to Career Services' job search and career
development materials. They will learn about the importance
of every work opportunity and receive information on
conducting a professional job search. We expect that
the revised program will serve Work Study supervisors
and the employing units better, as well.
ESC/CETL Workshop for Academic Advisors
During the morning of Friday, September 29, 2006,
the ESC will partner with the IU Northwest Center for
Excellence in Teaching and Learning to offer “Focusing
on Successful Advising at IUN,” a workshop for academic
advisors.
The workshop is designed to bring together advisors
from units across the campus to discuss the effect
of campus-wide regulations/issues on the advising process.
Advisors will hear from and have the opportunity to
ask questions of all of the heads of the ESC administrative
units. Also, ample time will be set aside during the
workshop for round table discussions by the advisors,
during which advisors can share their “best practices” in
advising.
Advisors will be able to register for the workshop
using CETL's online registration system found at its
Web site, www.iun.edu/~cetl. |
