Financial Aid Update

Important Information for 2006-07 Applicants

If you will be attending Indiana University Northwest for the 2006-2007 academic year and are interested in receiving financial aid, you will need to complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the core document necessary to apply for all types of student financial aid available through the state and federal governments as well as the university. This application must be completed each year that you intend to apply for financial aid. The FAFSA for 2006-2007 will be available beginning on January 1, 2006. Although this application may be filed anytime during the academic year, it is important to file as early as possible to prevent delays in receiving your financial aid. Additionally, the State of Indiana, through the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI), has a very early deadline date to be considered for the Frank O'Bannon Grant, formerly the Indiana Higher Education Grant, and the 21 st Century Scholars Program. The Federal processor must receive the application by March 10, 2006. Each year many students miss this deadline and miss the opportunity to receive additional grant aid.

The easiest method of submitting the FAFSA is through the Department of Education's website at www.fafsa.ed.gov . A link is also available on the Financial Aid page of the Indiana University Northwest website at www.iun.edu/~finaidnw/ . If you have never completed the application in the past, you should first apply for a pin number at www.pin.ed.gov . You can also request a duplicate pin number at that website. You should also print the 2006-2007 pre-application worksheet before you complete the application on the web.

For the upcoming year, paper renewal applications will not be sent to students that completed the FAFSA for 2005-2006. Instead, students will receive notification through an e-mail or postcard reminding them to file the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov for the 2006-2007 academic year. If your mailing address or e-mail address has changed since you filed the application for 2005-2006, you should update that information so as not to miss any important announcements from the Department of Education.
