Welcome to the Admissions Office!

It all starts here! The Admissions Office is often the first contact prospective students have with IUN. Our toll-free number, email address or web address are found on many University brochures and items distributed at high schools, businesses, and college and career fairs throughout northwest Indiana. If you want to know about IUN's undergraduate programs, we are a great place to start. Our Admissions staff offers a friendly welcome and lots of information as you pass through the glass doors of Hawthorn 100. Current students utilize the staff for “where do I” questions and bulletins and class schedules are readily available.

Major events coordinated through Admissions are Preview IU Northwest (fall and spring open houses), Seminar Day which showcases our outstanding faculty to high school juniors and seniors, and a new workshop to prepare high school students for the college selection process called College Prep 101. A post-admission event in which many students and their parents participate, New Student Orientation, is also planned and implemented by Admissions in conjunction with the entire University community. Another valuable element of the Admissions team, the Telecounseling Center , informs and reminds students of the various processes needed to get from admission to enrollment.

Highlighting College Prep 101

While visiting Northwest Indiana high schools, our Admissions Counselors found many students did not know how to get started on the college selection process. Many of our high school students will be first generation college students who do not have an experienced parent or sibling to help them. Because it is important for our residents to go to college in order to benefit themselves, their families, and the community, this workshop was designed to provide general information on college selection, standardized testing, majors and careers, financial aid, and the importance of having a plan to go to college. We will offer annual sessions in the fall and in the spring (February 3, 2005). Parents and students will walk away from this free workshop with a College Prep 101 kit full of website listings, planning guides, and lots of ‘need to know' items. This is not a recruitment event for IUN; it is an opportunity to support achievement of individual dreams and community growth through higher education. We would love for them to go to IUN, but more importantly we want them to go to college.
