The Basic Course

You can take Army ROTC classes with absolutely no military obligation. Introductory courses teach the fundamentals of leadership along with the organization of theU.S. military and basic soldiering skills, and are applicable to your academic major's elective requirements. As a participant in our basic course, you are also eligible for the many exciting extracurricular and social activities within the Fire Battalion. Basic course classes, where army basics are taught, are held once a week in a classroom environment. A leadership laboratory is also part of the program, held early Thursday morning so as not to interfere with other school activities. This lab is the practical part of the program, where leadership techniques taught in class are put to the test. Finally, physical training (PT) is a requirement for students not meeting the minimum physical fitness requirements. PT is run at IU Northwest from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. All books, uniforms, and equipment needed for the course are provided to you free of charge.
