Welcome The Northwest Indiana Local Government Academy is a collaborative effort between six colleges and universities: IU Northwest, Valparaiso University, Calumet College, Ivy Tech State College, Purdue Calumet, and Purdue North Central. The LGA is committed to improving the performance of local government in Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties. In addition to improving the work of local government, the LGA seeks to assist newly elected officials in understanding their roles and to teach them the best way to run a meeting, collaborate successfully, and to network. To achieve this goal , the Academy's involvement includes sponsoring dinners for new mayors and hosting an ethics symposium that encourages city councils to look at ethical issues. The tri-county area of Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties have suffered a negative economic inpact from corruption in local goverrment. The Local Governement Academy is committed to transforming this negative perception into a positive one. The LGA has already had success in helping some of our local municipalities revisit or create ethics ordinances. Healthy economic growth is dependent on good governement and the LGA will promote that growth. |
