Job Description: STC Consultant

STC Consultants provide direct support to the students, faculty, and staff of IU Northwest. Consultants are required to answer questions relating to software, hardware, and computer peripheral equipment. Consultants are expected to demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills and professionalism at all times. It is also very important that all STC Consultant's support and comply with the policies and procedures that are established.

Term of Employment

Consultants are employed on a semester by semester basis. The semester employment period begins on approximately the first day of the semester and ends on approximately the last day of finals for that semester.

Rehire Form

STC Consultant's that would like to be considered for a position during the subsequent fall, spring, or summer semesters must submit a rehire form. Each semester, notification of the request deadline will be electronically mailed to all consultants by the STC Manager. Rehire considerations are based on several criteria, including successful completion of the current semester, a consultant's availability, individual evaluations, etc.

Wages

STC Consultants are paid $7.00 per hour for the first semester of their employment. Returning STC Consultants can receive up to a $.25 raise per semester that they are rehired. This will be determined by individual evaluations, attendance, job performance, etc.

Paydays

All part-time employees are paid on biweekly on every other Friday. Each paycheck will include earnings for all work performed through the end of the previous payroll period. If a regularly scheduled payday falls on a holiday, consultants will receive pay on the day prior to the holiday.

Training

In an effort to keep consultant skills up-to-date, we offer computer based training materials and special training sessions. Examples of training offered include computer workshops, online training (NetG), training sessions with the STC Manager or other qualified staff members, etc.

Personal Appearance

Consultants are expected to dress in a casual / professional manner while on duty. Consultant clothing or hygiene should not distract customers from their purpose of seeking help. If you are unsure about a specific item of clothing, please check with the STC Manager for clarification.

Attendance and Punctuality

Consultants are asked to arrive 15 minutes before their shift starts. This ensures a smooth transition between shifts. If for some reason you are going to be late, you need to contact the STC Manager as soon as possible.
