Assistant Professor of Social Science - School of Education

The School of Education seeks to fill a full-time tenure-track faculty position in social science education.  The successful candidate will teach students in pre-service and graduate education courses in elementary and secondary social science methods and supervise students in field experience settings.  Conducting research, advising students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs, and service responsibilities are also primary responsibilities. 

Qualifications:  Must hold by August 1, 2010 an earned doctorate from an accredited university in social science education, curriculum and instruction or related field.  Qualifications and experiences important but not limited to the position include:

  • Philosophy of teaching and potential research agenda related to the role of social sciences in teacher preparation (include this in the cover letter)

  • Two or more years of teaching experience in a K-12 setting in the United States

  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships

  • Experience and/or interest in online and hybrid teaching

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Experience/interest in working with diverse cultural groups in urban environments

  • A sense of humor in teaching and collaborating with students and faculty

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with NCATE standards

  • Experience supervising students in field-based settings

  • Commitment to excellence and innovation in teacher preparation

  • Experience and interest in grant writing
