Visiting Librarian - IU Northwest Library The IU Northwest Library is seeking a Visiting Librarian/Visiting Library Faculty member that will manage the Electronic Geographic Data/Government Information and Health Services units. The librarian in this visiting position will serve as one of the Library’s outreach/community engagement librarians in specialized subject areas (through management of the Government Publications and Data/GIS Center units), help to acquire external resources for the Library, assist in the provision of specialized library instruction to students, and participate in the selection of library materials (especially in health and medical areas). Qualifications: Master’s in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program. Some Reference experience, Library databases, applications software, and strong customer service skills including ability to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse clientele are required. Geographic/GIS software, statistical/spreadsheet software, desktop publishing/HTML editing, library skills instruction and supervisory experience are desired. Specific Responsibilities: Data Center/Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Provide demographic data and GIS services to community, student, and faculty patrons. Collaborate with NW Indiana GIS Forum Group and City of Gary/NW Indiana economic development organizations. Governmental/Legal: Provide federal governmental (legislative/regulatory) and legal (court/case) information services to community, student, and faculty patrons. Coordinate/supervise Federal Depository Library service and Lake County Central Law Library service in collaboration with Lake County Indiana Courts and Bar Association. Grant-seeking/Nonprofit Organizations: Provide grant-seeking search assistance for community, student, and faculty patrons. Along with Library Director, oversee foundation Center Cooperating Collection/Community Grants Information Collection. Collaborate with Nonprofit Institute in providing services. Assist in seeking external funding resources for outreach/community engagement activities of IU Northwest Library. Public Health/Environmental: Provide urban environment and health information services to community, student, and faculty patrons through Environmental Resources Center. Collaborate with IU School of Medicine Northwest Campus Medical Education Library and new College of Health and Human Services. Reference and Library Instruction: Provide specialized reference service to students, faculty, staff, and community residents. Assist in the provision of library skills instruction in specialized subject areas. Teach tailored advanced level daytime and evening classes requested by classroom faculty. Work with other librarians to help implement “information literacy” components of revised campus General Education curriculum. Collection Development: Work with the teaching faculty in the selection of library materials for the general collection in specific assigned subject areas (e.g. for new College of Health and Human Services). Cooperate with the other Library faculty to select electronic and print materials for the general periodicals, index, and special development funds.
