Bachelor of Science

Requirements:

  • Complete a minimum of 122 credit hours.
  • Students need a total of 36 credit hours in 300 and 400 level courses.
  • Courses taken to cover deficiencies do not count toward graduation.

Distribution requirements:

Group I: English Composition and Mathematics (9 cr.).

  • English: W131 Elementary Composition and W231 Professional Writing (6 cr.).
  • Mathematics: MATH M100, MATH M110, MATH M118, MATH M119, MATH M125, or MATH M215.

Group II: Western Civilization or Foreign Language (6 cr.).

  • May be completed by by satisfactory completion of History H113 and H114, Western Civilization or by satisfactory completion of two courses in a foreign language numbered 200 or above

Group III: Distribution

  • IIIA: Physical and Life Sciences. 4-5 credits.
    For Informatics majors, one course fulfills this obligation, but that course needs to have a lab. See bulletin for complete list of courses.
  • IIIB: Social and Behavioral Sciences (6-12 cr.).
    Students must take at least two courses and they must be in separate disciplines. See bulletin for complete list of courses.
  • IIIC: Humanities (6-12 cr.).
    One course in this area must include a studio, lab, or performance course. See the bulletin for complete of courses.

IIIB/C:Course distribution between Groups III-B and III-C must total 18 credit hours.

Group IV: Culture Studies.

  • May be satisfied by successful completion of one course in the cultures of minorities in the United States, Latin America or Non-Western cultures. Such a course may be counted toward graduation in appropriate Group III B or Group III C area and Group IV.

Group V: Requirements for the Major - Informatics (55-58 cr.)

  • The major requirements are organized into three categories:

    • Informatics Core (34 cr.)
    • Informatics Electives (6 cr.)
    • Cognate Area (15-18 cr.)

Group VII: General Electives (0-28 credit hours)

  • Select a sufficient number of general electives to satisfy the 122 credit hour minimum requirement.
  • Take a sufficient number of courses at the 300-400 level to satisfy the general baccalaureate degree requirement for 36 credit hours in courses at the 300-400 (junior-senior) level.

5. Students may not take more than 15 hours out side of the college of Arts and Sciences without permission from the Dean.
