1. Minutes of October meeting. – no corrections

2. Change to OneStart default web browser for SIS:

Report by Kathryn Lantz: One Start (IU’s Portal) will be required to access certain IU administrative applications, such as Student Information Systems. Date of requirement is not known, but students will be required to use RegWeb to register for Fall 04 classes. It was suggested that Jay Fern be invited to next Faculty Org meeting and that Judy Knapp include One Start training in her A106 class.

Also- all student advisors will require a Safeword card to access SIS. Kathryn Lantz is working with Kris Bagan to obtain a sufficient number of Safeword cards. Kathryn will start training in February and faculty/staff will not have access to SIS until they have completed training. Kathryn’s phone number is x4229 for further questions.

3. Old business.
a. Mac classroom update – Jan Gerzma wants to stay with Macs. Will not be upgrading to MacOS 10– HW too slow; would need to purchase OS. Instead let life-cycle finish.
b. AQIP – Mike Certa is too busy to attend. Bert Scott will report on AQIP committee decisions: The AQIP Technology survey has a poor response rate. IT survey will have some questions incorporated into it.
c. Campus Computer and Printer policy and who pays for printer maintenance kits: Don Steward agreed that all maintenance including maintenance kits would be covered by IT funds.

4. Response to student letter on laptop use to Chancellor Bergland: Campus wireless access needs to be discussed within the context of the Technology Plan. Steve Fejdasz has already researched; he will be asked to present an overview of options at the next Technology Council meeting.

5. Additional PC classroom: Concept of classroom in a cart was presented. Mark will contact Chris Hanson to get pricing information. Also have Steve Fejdasz report on network and security implications.

6. Storing confidential data on local PC hard drives: Technology Council will send announcement out to Faculty & Staff including the following information: Statement of problem, options or alternatives. Don Steward will invite Mark Bruhn to campus for open discussion. Carol will bring printed guidelines to next meeting.

7. Revision of Technology Plan: to be addressed at next meeting, please bring copies of Technology Plan to next meeting.

8. Other Business: Student member, Mary Rieger reported that she has no access to DreamWeaver which is required to update her campus organization’s website. She requests that it be installed on Lab build; Mark Uncapher explained that since it is not part of the curriculum, and it is costly, it is not on the build. Frontpage extensions should be available to IU website developers. Add to agenda: Student group computers and software access as well as support for student groups.
