Helping Young People thru Education consist of college students and
graduates that recognize the need for a change and dedicate themselves toward making our community a productive one.

Various methods are used to effectively "reach" the youth within our
community. Those methods include interactive lectures, tutoring, workshops, visits from community leaders and various academic contests.

Some of the activities that the club engages in are: attending Student Leadership conferences at IUPUI, IU Kokomo, and Texas A&M, and the annual Black Student Leadership Conference. Furthermore, HYPE has sponsored its own leadership conference in April 2001 at IUN entitled "Enlightenment of Mind, Body and Soul."

In addition, the club has participated in SPEA's "Child Neglect and Abuse" conference held at IUN, clothing drives for homeless women and children at Sis. Thea Bowman Shelter.

The students are peer-mentors for the JEWELS and ROLE MODELS at Lew Wallace High School, and tutor students participating in the Kid's Club at Duncan Elementary School.

Other activities include tutoring with the SPLASH program, participating in Diabetes and March of Dimes walks, fundraisers to offer book scholarships to incoming freshman and possibly upperclassmen for the Fall of 2003-2004.

Completed accomplishments include visitations to several Gary Public Schools, along with repeated recognition from faculty and administration, other organizations, and community leaders.
