6. The Wizard will next ask for your e-mail address -- be certain to use the iun.edu extension, not the indiana.edu extension; only the iun.edu extension will work (e.g. johnsmith@iun.edu) -- Click Next.

7. The Wizard will then ask for your e-mail server information. For the incoming mail server, use the drop-down list to choose IMAP. The incoming mail server is your IMAP server. In all likelihood, it will be either IMAP3 (you'll type: imap3.indiana.edu) or IMAP 4 (you'll type: imap4.indiana.edu) -- Your outgoing server is -- mail-relay.indiana.edu -- Click Next.

8. The Wizard next will ask for your Username (and only your username, e.g., johnsmith for our example) and your password. If you would like to have Outlook Express automatically log you in, check the Remember Password checkbox. Leave the Secure Password Authentication checkbox unchecked.

10. The first time you open after set-up, you will get a bunch of error messages -- simply close all these and go to the Tools > Accounts. Click on the Mail tab, then single-click on your account listed in the main window and finally the Properties button just to the right. This will bring up the Properties dialog box.

11. Click on the Advanced tab. Under the Incoming Mail heading, click the checkbox next to 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)' so that a check is put in the box.

12. There is one tweak you will want to make before you start using Outlook Express. Go to Tools > Options and click on the General tab. Click to place a checkmark in the box next to 'When starting, go directly to my Inbox folder' and click to remove the checkmarks in the next three boxes. This will have Outlook Express look and load messages in your imap inbox when it starts and not bother with other unnecessary procedures.

In the Outlook Express interface, your inbox will be located within the imap3.indiana.edu (or imap4) inbox and not the Inbox built into MS Outlook. When you first open the program after this setup, it will have a (1) indicating a "new message". This will just be some general information on the program from Microsoft. You can set up your folders, etc., within the imap3 or imap4 inbox by right-clicking on it and choosing New Folder.
