Checklist for Project Directors

Because all IU Northwest-originating proposals are signed and sent to the funding agency from the Grant Services offices in Bloomington, extra time must be allowed for the process. Allow a minimum oft wo weeks before the agency deadline to bring (or e-mail) the completed proposal, with all attachments, to the IUN Office of Sponsored Programs.

Confer with Sponsored Programs Office to discuss all aspects of proposal and timeline for submission.
As soon as possible but no later than 6 weeks before deadline.
 

With IU Northwest's Office of Sponsored Programs, review IU policy regarding external funding, as applicable to individual proposal. Determine whether funds sought make the proposal a candidate for a gift or a sponsored project. Ascetain whether the proposed principal investigator is eligible to direct the project. For guidance see: http://www.fms.indiana.edu/cg/imp_notice/02-9.asp 6 weeks  
Confer with Department Chair, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and/or Dean concerning feasibility of project and cost share issues. Solicit letters of commitment for matching funds if required. 4-6 weeks
 
Confirm whether deadline date is postmark or receipt.

In cooperation with Sponsored Programs Office, prepare and submit budget to IUB Grants Services for pre-approval. If not previously filed, fill out Conflict of Interest forms, available online, and file them as form directs. 3-4 weeks
 
(Optional) Bring completed narrative draft to IU Northwest Sponsored Programs Office for proofreading.
2-3 weeks
 
With Director of Sponsored Programs, initiate and complete electronic route sheet. Attach completed proposal, budget, letters of support, and other supporting documents to electronic route sheet.
