Department of Geosciences

red line

Welcome

The Department of Geosciences at IU Northwest offers the B.A. and B.S. degrees and furnishes training for:

  1. Those who desire to become professional geoscientists and seek careers in university or college teaching, in industry, in research laboratories, or in federal or state geological surveys.

  2. Those who wish to teach earth science at the secondary school level.

  3. Those who seek a general knowledge of the geosciences and their relationship to the other sciences.

The department offers the learning experience through the traditional lecture series, laboratories, seminars, independent study in the field, laboratory and library, and through field trips to local sites and to geologically intriguing areas of North America. Each course for majors contains a field trip, and the department conducts one trip of two weeks duration after the spring semester.
