Andrew Fernandez ScholarshipIn selecting the scholarship recipients, the committee shall award the scholarship to an Indiana University Northwest student, with preference to a student of Hispanic descent. And David M. Kahn ScholarshipThe number, amount, and recipient(s) of the Scholarship(s) will be determined by the Scholarships Committee of IU Northwest. The initial award be made to an incoming freshman in the fall of 1992; from then on, the award may be made to any IU Northwest student at any level. The award will be open to all applicants in any discipline. To qualify for the initial award, incoming freshmen must be in the top 25% of their high school graduating class, and have above average SAT scores. The number, amount, and recipient(s) of the scholarship will be determined by the IU Northwest BMD Selection Committee Emerson Neighborhood ScholarshipThe scholarship supports undergraduate students, including but not limited to tuition, room and board, books and fees. The scholarship will be given to students attending IU Northwest who reside within the Emerson Neighborhood of Gary, Indiana. In the event that there are insufficient qualified applicants from the Emerson Neighborhood, then students who reside in Gary, Indiana may receive the scholarship. The scholarship may be renewable, at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, so long as the student maintains minimum academic eligibility requirements as set by Indiana University. Harris ScholarshipScholarship shall be granted for one year predicated on the need of the recipient but may be renewed at the discretion of the IU Northwest Scholarship Committee so long as applicant makes satisfactory progress. IU Northwest African American Studies ScholarshipThe scholarship supports undergraduate, post graduate and graduate students. The recipients will be full time or part time, traditional or non-traditional students, with a preference given to students of Black-African/African American heritage. Preference will be given to students majoring in African American Studies, although students may major in any discipline. The recipients will be expected to maintain a record of academic excellence as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, or if a first time student based on their last high school record. The scholarship may be renewable if the recipient maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA; The scholarship will be for tuition, mandatory fees and college course textbooks only. The number, amount, and recipient(s) of the Scholarship will be determined by the Scholarship Committee of IU Northwest, in consultation with the two members of the IU Northwest African American Studies Committee. IU Northwest Nontraditional Student ScholarshipThe recipients of the scholarship will be students at IU Northwest who are in the process of achieving an associate or bachelor degree. The scholarship will pay 1/2 of the recipients' tuition. The criteria for receiving the scholarship shall be as follows: A) Scholarships shall be given to students who are residents of Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski or Starke Counties. B)Scholarships shall be given to currently enrolled students who have successfully completed a minimum of (12) credit hours at IU Northwest and are in good standing; C) The Scholarship recipients will be undergraduate students working toward an associate degree or bachelor degree who are continuously enrolled in a minimum of (12) credit hours per year. The Scholarship will be the amount of the maximum of (1/2) of the tuition for the remaining credit hours required for that degree. For an associate degree, (1/2) of the tuition will be paid up to a paid up to a max (48) credit hours remaining. James and Betty Dye ScholarshipThe recipients of the scholarship will be students at IU Northwest who are in the process of achieving their goal of an associate bachelor degree. The scholarship will pay one-half (1/2) of the recipients tuition. Criteria: A) Given to students who reside in Northwest Indiana with preference given to citizens of Griffith, IN who are graduates from Griffith High School. B) Scholarships shall be given to currently enrolled students who have successfully completed a minimum of (12) credit hours at IU Northwest and are in good standing; C) The Scholarship recipients will be undergraduate students working toward an associate degree or bachelor degree who are continuously enrolled in a minimum of (12) credit hours per year. The scholarship will be the amount of the maximum of (1/2) of the tuition for the remaining credit hours required for that degree. For an associate degree, (1/2) of the tuition will be paid up to a paid up to a max (48) credit hours remaining. Kahn Adult Learner Scholarship provides a scholarship to a student who has earned at least 60 credit hours, who is at least 25 years of age, and who has a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0. Preference is given to adult students with family responsibilities, single mothers, and adults who without financial assistance would be unable to continue their studies. Recipient must demonstrate considerable financial need. The number, amount and recipient of the scholarship will be determined by the Scholarship Committee of IU Northwest. Kenneth A. and Marjorie A. Mills ScholarshipThe scholarship will be awarded to a student or students majoring in Social Sciences: Afro-American Studies, Economics, Communication (with an emphasis on Organizational Communication), Political Science, Psychology or Sociology. Candidates must be enrolled full time, have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours, and have a (GPA) of between 2.5 and 3.5. Preference will be given to those students who work to help pay for their educational expenses. Latino Hoosier Hero ScholarshipThe Latino Hoosier Hero award provides an annual scholarship to a full time student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference is given to students of Latino heritage. The scholarship may be renewed with a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or above. Latino Studies’ ALMA ScholarshipRecipients may be full or part time, graduate or undergraduate students, with a preference given to a person of Latino Heritage. The recipient may major in any discipline, and must have a GPA of 3.0, or if a first time student, based on their last high school record. The scholarship may be renewable if the recipient maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA Mildred Paich ScholarshipRecipient(s) shall be IU Northwest students who have achieved excellence as determined by the IU Northwest Scholarship Committee. NIPSCO ScholarshipThe Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) provides that one student shall be selected by the IU Northwest Scholarship Committee who is a full time student with preference being given to dependent children of NIPSCO employees, minority students or other students with disabilities. The student may major in any discipline but must maintain a record of academic excellence as demonstrated by a grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship may be renewable if the recipient maintains a 2.7 GPA, to be determined by Indiana University Northwest at the end of each academic year. The scholarship will be for tuition only and will be credited to the students account. Up to $3,000 per year per student enrolled at IU Northwest majoring in the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry will be awarded. The recipients will have a record of academic excellence as demonstrated by a 3.0 grade point average and have attained junior or senior status. Preference will be given to students residing in either Lake or Porter County, demonstrating financial need and whose family income is under $40,000 per annum. Candidates will be sponsored by a faculty member (s) who will be requested to write a letter of support. The recipients of the scholarship will be determined by the Scholarship Committee of IU Northwest. Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) ScholarshipFull time nursing students applying must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. To be eligible, students must be a SNA member, submit an essay of not more than 300 words on the "reason for being a nurse," and have demonstration of community involvement and/or extra-curricular activities. Student Nurses’ Association Board Members are ineligible for consideration. The number, amount, & recipient(s) will be determined by and the SNA Faculty Advisor in consultation with the SNA Board members. If the award is made to other than a senior student that student may qualify for a second year provided that the student demonstrates continuous advancement. Blaney ScholarshipStudents enrolled at IU Northwest who is majoring in the Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Program, and who has a record of academic excellence as demonstrated by a GPA of.2.0 on a 4.0 scale, and have demonstrated his/her willingness to perform community service. In selecting recipients preference should be given to a child of an employee of Methodist Hospitals. Memorial ScholarshipTwo scholarships for full-time undergraduate students at IU Northwest. Consideration shall be given to qualities of citizenship, academic accomplishment, and nursing acumen. One scholarship will be given to an incoming freshman, with preference given to a graduate of either Chesterton High School or Valparaiso High School, has a high school cumulative GPA of 3.3, and who intends to enroll in the School of Nursing during his/her second year of studies. This Scholarship will be renewable for the student's second year provided the student maintains a minimum 3.3 GPA and enrolls in the School of Nursing in their second year. The Scholarship Selection Committee of the School of Nursing, in cooperation with the Office of Admissions, will select the recipient and amount from the incoming freshman class. The second scholarship will be made to a student who is currently enrolled in the School of Nursing, with preference given to a graduate of either Chesterton or Valparaiso High School and who has a cumulative GPA of 3.3. This recipient will be either a sophomore, junior or senior student and the Scholarship may be renewable. The amount awarded will equal the amount of the freshman renewal. The Scholarship Selection Committee of the School of Nursing will select the recipient and the amount. The Sherry Wilds Burger Memorial ScholarshipIU Northwest students who have declared Nursing as their major and who possess a record of academic excellence as demonstrated by a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale are eligible. Students must have attained sophomore class standing. Scholarships may be renewed with evidence of an overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship shall be awarded to students enrolled as seniors in the Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing programs in the Division of Nursing, Such students shall be in the top ten percent (10%) of their respective class at the beginning of their eligibility year. Students shall have demonstrated a commitment to nursing as evidenced by participation in student organizations, as well as outstanding clinical performance evidenced by favorable faculty evaluations. School of Public and Environmental AffairsCharles Bonser IU Northwest ScholarshipAwarded to an undergraduate or graduate student. Selected on the basis of need, scholarship and career objectives. Must be full-time student in good standing with the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and have GPA of at least 3.0. Other factors being equal, preference may be given to students seeking careers in state or local government. The recipient(s) of the scholarship will be determined by the Scholarship Committee of the School. Patricia and John Ryan ScholarshipTwo scholarships shall be awarded upon recommendation of the Political Science Academic Advisor of SPEA. The Scholarships shall be given from the pool of junior and senior political science majors each year with a minimum amount of Five Hundred Dollars ($500) each. The recipients of the scholarship must have the highest grade point index in their respective class groups of majors, provided that their grade point index is at least 3.35. The recipients must have been enrolled as political science majors in an institution of higher learning the spring semester prior to the award. The amount and recipients shall be determined by the IU Northwest Scholarship Committee. Ronald J. Ziol Memorial ScholarshipAwarded to full-time student(s) majoring in Criminal Justice and entering senior year of coursework. Minimum GPA of 3.2. Should either be working in their respective field or have demonstrated leadership abilities through an internship or volunteer work. Should demonstrate community involvement, such as working with children, church involvement or anything that demonstrates the ideals and principles of one who is civic minded. Selection not made solely on academic performance but rather on what the applicant is doing in the community and how he or she is making a difference. School of Social WorkIU Northwest Social Work ScholarshipThis scholarship shall be for graduate students in the Division of Social Work. The recipient(s) should have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference shall be given for single parents.
