This is a list of scholarships available directly from IU Northwest. Contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for specific details and deadlines. Estimated scholarship amounts are for the 2003-2004 academic year.

IU Northwest Scholarship Application Form

Altrusa of the Indiana Dunes Scholarship
Provides two annual scholarships, estimated at $500 each, to undergraduate students who have attained junior standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7. Candidates must be U.S. citizens who are residents of Northwest Indiana with first preference given to female students.

Allen Austin Memorial Scholarship
Provides funds to the English department for various student awards selected by the faculty.

Baccalaureate/Medical Education Scholarship
Full-tuition scholarship awarded to a student who resides in an urban setting or is graduating from a high school in an urban setting. The student must be planning to major in premed and must be enrolling at IU Northwest directly from high school. Minimum GPA of 3.5 and an SAT score of 1200 or higher. The IU School of Medicine provides tuition for medical school in the form of a scholarship.

Bank One, NA Bank Fellows Scholarship
Provides two scholarships for full tuition, fees, and books annually to incoming, full-time freshmen students. To compete for these scholarships, students should rank in the top one-third of their high school class, have at least 1000 on the SAT, and have demonstrated leadership ability and promise. The scholarship may be renewed with a 3.30 cumulative GPA.

Bank One Merrillville Scholarship
One new scholarship, in the amount of full tuition, fees, and books, is available annually to an entering full-time freshman student with financial need, from either Lake County or Porter County. Preference is for a Black or Hispanic student who is in the top 15% of their high school class, with at least a 950 SAT composite score, and shows evidence of leadership abilities and promise. The scholarship is renewable with a 2.80 cumulative GPA at the end of the freshman year and a 3.00 cumulative grade point average at the end of the sophomore and junior years.

Florence Bond Scholarship
Provides an annual scholarship, estimated at $900, to a full-time student majoring in elementary or special education.

Charles Bonser Scholarship
Provides an annual scholarship, estimated at $350, to a full-time student in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs with at least 3.0 cumulative GPA.

BP Scholarship
An estimated $3,000 award given to a junior or senior majoring in biology. Preference given to residents of Lake or Porter Counties with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and a demonstrated financial need.

Lloyd J. Buckwell, Jr. Scholarship Fund
Provides an annual scholarship, estimated at $500, for a junior or senior majoring in accounting with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Sherry Wilds Burger Memorial Scholarship
Provides one scholarship, estimated at $2,000, for a nursing student who has at least sophomore standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference given to a student with a demonstrated financial need.

Chancellor's Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarship
Provides annual scholarships for full tuition, fees, and books (valedictorian); or for tuition and fees (salutatorian), to all incoming full-time freshmen who were high school valedictorians or salutatorians graduating from state-accredited high schools. The students must be coming directly to IU Northwest from high school. Scholarships are renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above.

Romy S. Chirila Memorial Scholarship
Provides two annual scholarships, estimated at $1,000 each, to students pursuing the study of predentistry with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above.

Citizens Financial Services Scholarship
Proves a $1,000 scholarship to a freshman student who is a resident of Lake, Porter, or LaPorte County. Must demonstrate financial need. The scholarship is renewable with an appropriate GPA for the student's academic major.

City of Gary/IU Northwest Endowed Scholarship
Provides scholarships for two City of Gary residents for full tuition, fees, and books. Recipients must have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75. The scholarship may be renewed with a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

Dental Auxiliary Education Scholarship
Provides one scholarship, estimated at $350, to an undergraduate student who has an interest in the study of dental education.

Rogelio Dominguez Scholarship
$500 scholarships are available, with a preference for Latino students living in Northwest Indiana, who are enrolled full-time and in good academic standing.

Wanda Dudzik Scholarship
Awarded to students in the Division of Business and Economics in each class level.

Duneland Rock Club Scholarship
Provides an annual scholarship for a student majoring in geology.

Jim and Betty Dye Scholarship
Provides annual full-tuition scholarships that are renewable if the student meets academic and residency requirements. The recipient must be graduating from Griffith High School, going directly to IU Northwest, and enroll for at least 14 credits each semester.

James W. and Betty Dye Non-Traditional Student Scholarship
Provides one-half tuition scholarships for students who graduated from Griffith High School, are at least 24 years of age, and are enrolled at least half-time.

Peggy Gordon Elliott Scholarship
Provides one annual scholarship for full tuition, fees, and books to a student of sophomore standing who demonstrates outstanding scholarship and financial need.

Herman and Mae Feldman Scholarship
Provides an annual scholarship, estimated at $500, to a full-time student in psychology who has at least a sophomore standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Andrew Fernandez Scholarship
Provides annual scholarships, estimated at $500 each, to incoming freshmen with preference given to Hispanic students.

Foreign Studies Scholarship
For students who have completed at least 45 credit hours, have exhibited excellence in a modern foreign language, and have been accepted into an IU-sponsored foreign studies program.

Albert and Margaret Gallagher Scholarship
One annual scholarships, estimated at $500, awarded to a student with at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA in the Division of Business and Economics who has demonstrated interest in the pursuit of a career in small business enterprise. The student must be participating in financing his/her own education.

Syd Garner Scholarship
An annual full-tuition scholarship awarded to government employees of Lake County with at least five years of service (or their children). This scholarship is not renewable.

Hammond Optimist Club Scholarship
Provides two, one-time only, $1,000 scholarships to entering full-time freshmen, with financial need, who are residents of Lake County.

Gladys C. Harris Scholarship
Provides two annual scholarships for full tuition to students with a demonstrated financial need and outstanding academic achievement.

IU Northwest High Academic Scholarship

Kathleen M. Mills Hill Memorial Scholarship
Provides two annual scholarships, estimated at $1,250 each, to students majoring in communication or fine arts who have completed 24 credits at IU Northwest with at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA. Preference is given to students who work while attending IU Northwest.

Susan Thorstad Hugus, R.N., Memorial Scholarship
Provides a scholarship, estimated at $2,500, to a full-time nursing student with at least sophomore standing who is a graduate of either Valparaiso or Chesterton High School. Candidates must be able to demonstrate financial need, have a GPA of 3.3 or higher, and hold no other scholarships. This scholarship may be renewed if the student maintains an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher.

Indiana American Water Company Scholarship
Two awards of $450 each given to full-time junior or senior students with cumulative GPAs of at least 3.0, majoring in environmental science, public health, or business with a demonstrated financial need. Recipients must be residents of Lake or Porter Counties.

Carl L. and David M. Kahn Scholarship
Provides a scholarship for full tuition, fees, and books to an incoming full-time freshman in the top 25 percent of their high school graduating class with above-average SAT scores. The scholarship may be renewed with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Jennie B. Kahn Adult Learner Scholarship
Provides a scholarship, estimated at $2,500, to a student who has earned at least 60 credit hours, who is at least 25 years of age and who has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Preference is given to a student with family responsibilities who demonstrates a financial need.

Jennie B. Kahn Scholarship
Provides a scholarship, estimated at $3,000, to a full-time student who resides in Lake County and demonstrates financial need. Preference is given to students with serious disabilities, majoring in education or social work, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The scholarship is renewable if the recipient maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Evangelia Kremizes and Helen Southwell Scholarship
Provides one scholarship, estimated at $2,000, to a full-time student in the Division of Arts and Sciences majoring in the humanities. To be eligible, a student must be a graduate of Valparaiso High School and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. Preference shall be given to female students who are at least 50% or more of Greek (Hellenic) descent.

Shirley Langel Scholarship
Provides one scholarship, estimated at $500, to a student in the Division of Nursing who demonstrates outstanding scholarship.

Latino Hoosier Hero Scholarship
Provides an annual scholarship, estimated at $450, to a full-time student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference is given to students of Latino heritage. The scholarship is renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

James and Katherine Lazerwitz Scholarship
Provides a scholarship, estimated at $2,000, to a full-time junior or senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and a demonstrated financial need. Student must be majoring in chemistry, biology, or physics/geosciences, and be a resident of Lake County. The scholarship is renewable with a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Local 6787 Memorial Scholarship
One $100 scholarship is available annually to a financially needy undergraduate student majoring in the Labor Studies program. First preference is given to members of Local 6787, then to members’ immediate family members, and then to any member of the United Steel Workers of America.

Keith Lorentzen Chemistry Scholarship
Provides an annual scholarship, estimated at $1,500, to an outstanding senior majoring in chemistry with at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA.

Reverend Robert Lowery Minority Scholarship
Provides one scholarship, estimated at $2,500, to an African American student entering their junior or senior year in the Division of Business and Economics. Student must demonstrate outstanding scholarship.

Penny MacLennan Memorial Scholarship
Provides two scholarships, estimated at $1,000 each, to full-time students majoring in dental hygiene with second year standing in the program. Recipients must have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA, have financial need, and hold no other scholarship.

Silas W. “Bill” May Memorial Scholarship
Provides one scholarship, estimated at $3,000, to a full-time student majoring in biology. The recipient must have at least a 2.80 cumulative GPA, have financial need, and be a resident of Jasper, Lake, Laporte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, or Starke County.

Medical Education Scholarship
Provides four annual scholarships of $1,000 each to students majoring in nursing. Scholarships are renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Methodist Hospitals Auxiliary and Medical Staff Scholarship
Two scholarships provided to students in the Division of Nursing.

Methodist Hospitals/Doris R. Blaney Scholarship
Provides a $1,500 scholarship to a student in the BSN nursing program. The student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and must demonstrate a willingness to perform community service. Preference is given to children of employees of Methodist Hospitals.

Elsie Kerr Meyer Memorial Scholarship
A $1,500 scholarship is available for a senior in the School of Education.

Kenneth A. and Marjorie A. Mills Scholarship
Two annual scholarships, estimated at $1,000 each, provided to students majoring in Afro-American studies, economics, political science, psychology, or sociology, who have completed at least 24 credits at IU Northwest with at least a 2.50 cumulative GPA. Preference is given to students who work while attending IU Northwest.

NIPSCO Scholarship
Provides a scholarship, estimated at $2,500, to a full-time student with preference given to dependent children of NIPSCO employees, minority students, or students with disabilities. The scholarships is renewable with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or above.

Nontraditional Student Scholarship
Provides half-tuition scholarships to students who are enrolled at least half time and are at least 24 years of age. Recipients must be a resident of Jasper, Lake, Laporte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, or Starke County.

Danilo Orescanin Memorial Scholarship
Two full-tuition scholarships awarded to full-time junior or senior students majoring in business with a demonstrated financial need and a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above. Renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.

Mildred Paich Scholarship
An annual award estimated at $500 to a student who has achieved academic excellence.

Geraldine Peiffer Scholarship
One scholarship, estimated at $300, is available to a student in the respiratory therapy program.

David Plucinski Memorial Scholarship
Three scholarships, estimated at $1,000 each, are awarded to full-time seniors majoring in science with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Hilda Richards Scholarship
Provides two annual scholarships, estimated at $1,500 each, to full- or part-time African American undergraduates in the Division or Nursing. Recipients must have been born in the U.S. and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference for students with a financial need.

Julie Rothenberg Scholarship
Provides an annual scholarship, estimated at $500, for a Nursing student.

Rhiman Rotz Memorial Scholarship
A $200 scholarship is available to a junior or senior majoring in History, with at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Fred C. and Louise E. Rowley Scholarship
Provides an annual scholarship, estimated at $2,500, to a full-time junior or senior majoring in English or English literature with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Preference is given to a student from Hammond or Munster.

Patricia and John W. Ryan Scholarship
Provides two annual scholarships, estimated at $1,250 each, to students majoring in political science with the highest cumulative GPA in their classes (minimum GPA of 3.35).

William A. Shields Scholarship
The IU Northwest Neal-Marshall Alumni Club selects the recipients.

June L. Shipley Memorial Scholarship
One scholarship, estimated at $1,000, is available to a student in the School of Education, with at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA, who is preparing to become a fine arts or English teacher.

Special Academic Scholarship
Provides full-tuition scholarships annually to outstanding freshmen coming directly to IU Northwest from high school. Students must be in the top 10 percent of their graduating class or have a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have an SAT score of 1100 or above. These scholarships are renewable with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above.

Strack Family Scholarship
Three annual $2,000 scholarships are awarded annually by the Division of Business and Economics. Preference is given to employees of Strack and/or Van Til supermarkets and their children. Recipients must live in a Strack and/or Van Til supermarket area and demonstrate financial need.

Student Nurses Association (SNA) Scholarship
Provides scholarships to full-time nursing students with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, who are members of the SNA.

S. L. and Marjorie Taylor Scholarship
A $1,000 scholarship awarded to a theatre major with sophomore standing or above with at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Theatre Patron Scholarship
A $500 award given to an incoming freshman from Lake or Porter Counties with at least a 3.0 GPA. The award is based on the student's audition and/or portfolio presentation.

Ray C. and Josephine K. Thomas Scholarship
Three scholarships, estimated at $1,200 each, are awarded to full-time students who have credible scholastic records.

George Uzelac and Associates, Inc. Scholarship
One scholarship, estimated at $600, awarded to a full-time student who resides in Lake or Porter County and has attained junior or senior status in the Division of Business and Economics. The student must be majoring in marketing or accounting and have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.

Carrie Varlan Memorial Scholarship
Provides a scholarship, estimated at $300, for a second-year, second-semester dental hygiene student with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The scholarship is not renewable.

Ronald J. Ziol Memorial Scholarship
A $400 annual scholarship awarded to a full-time senior majoring in criminal justice with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above.
