Professor Sheila Marie Trzcinka
For over 25 years Dr. Sheila Marie Trzcinka has been in the field of
education. She received a M.S. in Counseling, a M.Ed. in Special Education,
and a Ph.D. in Administration. Sheila Marie has been a counselor, teacher,
special education and compensatory education administrator, researcher,
Special Education Task Force member of the New York state Inclusion Network, a
University Forum member of the Indiana Special Education Administrator’s
Services (ISEAS), and a United States Department of Education consultant in
urban and rural areas nationally and internationally in the areas of special
education and general education.
Her professional interests include urban education, the ramifications of
inclusion on students and teachers, and the use of reflection in pre-service
and in-service education. In the few stolen minutes of her spare time, she
enjoys listening to world music, especially jazz, early morning hikes in the
woods, reading global literature, and gourmet cooking.
Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the Special Education and
Leadership Programs at IUN, Dr. Trzcinka teaches both the graduate and
undergraduate Methods of Teaching Students with Learning and Behavioral
Problems, Introduction to Special Education, Field Experience Seminars,
Practicum in Special Education, Leadership in Special Education, Dr. Trzcinka
has always shown a strong commitment to providing collaborative services to
school districts and cooperatives, as well as national and international
organizations. Since she joined the IUN School of Education family, she will
continue to solicit future opportunities that share her expertise and
communicate the ideals of promoting a safe, appropriate education for the
diverse populations of students in northwest Indiana."
