Session Title: Accreditation Sponsored by the Assessment in Higher Education TIG Chair(s): John D Jones, Idaho State University Discussant: Mark E Troy, Texas A&M University Creating a Unit Assessment System to Meet the National Council for Accreditation of Teachers (NCATE) 2000 Standards Presenters: Pamela A Sandoval, Indiana University Northwest Janice Grskovic, Indiana University Northwest Stan Wigle, Indiana University Northwest Abstract: The purpose of this proposed paper session is to present the nuts and bolts of a Unit Assessment System (UAS) in teacher education. This UAS is meant to provide a cohesive plan and structure to rigorously evaluate candidates's knowledge, dispositions and performances prior to certification and to provide a feedback loop to evaluate the effectiveness of the overall teacher education program. This is important because it provides a model to meet the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) 2000 standards for accountability in teacher education. |
