7.President's Report
- Formation of Review Committees - Members of the Committees to Review Deans Lovely and Pellicciotti will be announced in the near future.
- AQUIP - Professor Fischer reported on AQUIP. Three action projects have been selected and sent to NCA. They are first year intervention; enhance student advising; and increase technical capabilities of faculty and staff. The university will need to develop assessment guidelines as annual updates are required and a system portfolio will be due in three years. Title 3 grants may be pursued to help pay for these action projects. Professor Fischer thanked faculty for past feedback to the committee.
- Juvenile Diabetes Walk - Professor Foltz announced that IUN would be participating in the Juvenile Diabetes Walk on Sunday, September 29 at Hidden Lake Park. The goal is to raise $3000 from the university community.
- IU Credit Union - IU Credit Union supplied the refreshments for today's meeting. Participants are needed for the Wellness Challenge on Friday, October 11. Those interested in participating should contact Trish Ierino or Jackie Cheairs.
8. Committee Reports
- Library Committee - Acting Director Steve McShane expressed the need to fill the Director's position with a full time person. The library materials allocation budget was distributed. Ellen Bosman fielded questions on how the allocations are made. Allocations are based on a formula which considers average cost of periodicals, head count/credit hours and weight of course with graduate being higher than undergraduate. A motion to accept the budget was made, seconded and passed unanimously.
9. Old Business
Committee restructuring will be sent to the Constitutional Revision Committee.
10. New Business
- Resolution regarding Search for Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs - Alan Barr submitted the following resolution. Chancellor Bergland announced to the Executive Committee on September 6th, that there would be no search for a Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs this year. This would mean that since the resignation of Mary Russell in Spring 1997, we have not had a selected Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs except for the brief tenure of Virginia Helms. Many of us in the faculty feel that the single most pressing need at IUN is for academic leadership. We therefore strongly urge the Chancellor to reconsider his decision and appoint a Search committee for a Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs in a timely fashion.
A motion to accept the resolution was made and seconded. After some discussion, the question was called. The hand vote showed 53 in favor, 0 opposed and 5 abstained.
11. Adjournment
The Faculty Organization meeting adjourned at 11:11 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Angel V. Gochee
