Bachelor of Arts

Requirements: At least 10 courses above the 100 level, of which at least five must be on the 300-400 level; total of 30 credit hours. These are the requirements:
  • English literature before 1700, to be satisfied by L211 or by two courses from the sequence of courses from L303 to L320.
  • English literature since 1700, to be satisfied by L212 or by two courses from the sequence of courses from L325 to L348.
  • Major plays of Shakespeare, L315.
  • American literature, to be satisfied by one course from the sequence of courses from L350 to L363.
  • L440 (also fulfills capstone requirement).
  • Students must also complete the general requirements of the Division of Arts & Sciences.

Associate of Arts

  • Requirements: English L101, L102, and any three of the following courses: L202, L203, L204, L205, L207, L211, or L212. Students must also complete the general requirements of the Division of Arts & Sciences.

Minors in English

Students must complete the general requirements of the Division of Arts & Sciences. Following are the requirements for three options for minors. Literature Option:

  1. L202 or L203 or L204 or L205 2. L211 and L212 3. L351 or L352 or L354 4. One 300-level course in English Literature. Writing Option:
  2. W231 and W233 or W350 2. W301 or W303 3. 6 credit hours from among L202, L203, L204, L205, W132 and either W233 or W350--if both are taken. Professional Writing Option:
  3. ENG W132 or ENG W233 or SPCH S223 or PHIL P306 2. ENG W231 and ENG W490 3. ENG W233 (if not taken under number 1 above) or ENG W350 4. ENG W398.
