Dr. Vernon G. Smith is currently a Professor of Education amd Coordinator of the Educational Leadership Program in the School of Education. In 2002, he was awarded tenure and promoted to Associate Professor. He joined
the faculty as an assistant professor in 1991 with an Ed.D. in Elementary
Education and Elementary Administration. Prior to 1991 he served
as an adjunct professor in the education division at I.U. Northwest and
Purdue Calumet. He served as an elementary science and math teacher, a
resource teacher and as an elementary principal in the Gary Community School
Corp. Currently he teaches elementary administration
courses and secondary administration courses. He has completed research
in the areas of self-esteem, African American male academic achievement and parental involvement. He is the recipient of over 200 awards
and citations and has been listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who. For
