Dr. Violet Lanis

Violet A. Lanis, Ph.D. is a Visiting Assistant Proferssor. Dr. Lanis earned her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Indiana State University and is currently teaching Microcomputer for Education (W200) and Education and the American Culture (H340).  She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Ball State University after which she taught at the secondary level in both Illinois and Connecticut.  Dr. Lanis accepted her present position in the School of Education in 2005, but she is not a stranger to IUN as she was a faculty member teaching W200 from 1989-1996.   Prior to recently returning to IUN, she had developed extensive teaching expertise while pursuing advanced opportunities at Purdue University Calumet, Indiana University South Bend, and St. Joseph’s College (all in IN) as well as at the University of Bridgeport (CT), and DeKalb College (GA).

Dr. Lanis not only holds teaching licenses in Indiana, Connecticut, and Illinois, but also maintains her Indiana School Administration and Supervision Licenses at both the elementary and secondary levels.  She earned the J. Fred Swalls Award in Educational Leadership and is recognized in Who’s Who in American Education.  Dr. Lanis served as President of Rho Xi Chapter (at IUN) of Kappa Delta Pi, Int’l. Honor Society in Education as well as being a life member of NEA.  She has presented at the Hawaii Int’l. Conference on Education and the Kappa Delta Pi Bi-annual Convocation in Alabama.  In addition, she is currently an Indiana Professional Standards Board-NCATE Evaluator.


Dr. Lanis is delighted to once again be teaching in the School of Education at IUN and is excited to be an integral component of such a progressive, professional institution.  She serves on the IUN Technology Council as well as numerous SOE committees.  Her main focus has always been the positive progress and achievements of her students, and, thereby encourages being a creative, reflective practitioner.  Her goal as an educator is to have all her education candidates aspire to developing an individual professional mission with a primary focus of being a catalyst that challenges young minds so that they can maximize their potential learning achievements that ultimately lead to the realization of successful future accomplishments.
