Test Preparation Test Preparation Tip. Unlike tradition subject centered exams that test for content knowledge, exams in methods courses should focus on implementationhow you implement pedagogy, learning theories & subject area knowledge in practice. In order to help you think about significant teaching issues, and to prepare you for the tests, throughout the semester you will be translating theory into practice through participation in hands-on, minds-on activities, and by reflecting upon your own learning and future teachingsee Assignments. You will also have the opportunity to put theory into practice as you teach a mathematics lessons to K-6 children during your M201 field experiences. The best way to prepare for tests is to participate actively in class activities and to invest in your future by making the most of reflective assignments and hands-on projects. Approximately two weeks before the midterm and the final exams, a study guide will be available. You are encouraged to complete each study guide and bring it with you for use during the exam. Midterm. The midterm exam is scheduled for the 8th week of the semester and is worth TDB points. It will cover information presented in class and the readings from Weeks 1-7. The first half of the exam is based on a teaching simulation to be conducted in-class the day before the midterm is scheduled. This portion of the exam is take home and may be done in TEAMs (everyone will receive the same score) or individually. The in-class portion of the exam will be held during the following class meeting and takes about 30 minutes to complete. This half of the exam is taken individually. Approximately two weeks before the midterm, a study guide will be available. You are encouraged to complete the study guide and bring it to the midterm for use during the exam. Both parts of the midterm are composed of short answer & essay questions. Before you turn in either portion of your exam, put your name and number on them. Final Exam. The final exam is scheduled for the last week of the semester (refer to the Schedule of Classes for date & time) and is divided into three parts, each worth 25 points. The parts include: (1) a take home exam in the form of a written reflection, (2) response to a teaching vignette, and (3) an in-class test similar to the second part of the midterm. Part 3 will cover information presented in class and the readings from Weeks 9-15. Together, the three parts of the final exam will allow you to demonstrate mastery of the course objectives and central questions. Part 1 of the exam is due on (date TBD) by 5 p.m. On the day of the final, come to the designated room at the assigned time. You will then watch a video taped lesson and respond to it using Hieberts Dimensions (just like you did on the midterm). Following the video, you will receive a test composed of short answer and essay questions. Approximately two weeks before the final exam, a study guide will be available. You are encouraged to complete the study guide and bring it to the final for use during the exam. Put your name and number on all three parts of the final exam.
