Is a master's degree in secondary education required by the state of Indiana Professional Standards Board?
- No. The standard senior high/junior high/middle school license may be renewed by successfully completing six credit hours of academic courses every five years. Indiana University Northwest recommends getting a master's degree because school corporations have pay differential for having a master's degree. It is advantageous for a teacher's career development to get it and to professionalize the teaching license; so that, the teacher is view as a master teacher. To be eligible for a secondary administration and supervision license, the professional SH/JH/MS teaching license is needed prior to the issuance of that license.
Are the classes offered as not to interfere with my teaching during the day?
- All classes are offered conveniently after 4:00 p.m. in the first and second semesters, some are on Saturday and many during Summer Sessions one and two.
