FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions)

Is IU Northwest a Non-Profit Organization?

  • Yes, we are registered as a 501 [c] 3 tax exempt, non-profit organization with the Internal Revenue Service. 100 percent of all donations go directly to the designated project or initiative.

What are the Different Ways to Give?

  • A donor can give in various ways. Through the ‘Give Now’ button on our web site; your contributions can go towards the various academic departments and scholarships that you select.

There are 3 Types of Gift Agreements, as follows:

  • Annual Gifts: Gifts are directed by the donor for the project they designate. The funds are pooled with short term investments have a minimal risk in the market.
  • Endowments: An endowment is a special fund whereby the principal is held for investment and the interest earned on the principal is spent as directed by the donor.
  • Quasi-Endowments: Quasi endowments must retain the purpose and intent as specified by the donor or source of the original funds, and earnings may be expended only for those purposes.  The interest is spent as needed and the principal is only used if needed.

How can one person make a difference?

  • We encourage you to contribute at any level that you feel comfortable to give. Not everyone can make a million dollar donation, but most everyone can send in a small contribution. With many ‘small’ gifts, the amount can significantly add up. The benefits of these combined contributions can be every bit as important as a large gift contribution.

What forms of payment can be accepted?

A contribution can be made by check, cash, or money order. The Office of Development will gladly provide you with details for payment. You may make checks and money orders payable to the IU Foundation; send these to IU Northwest, Office of Development.
