Our Mission
The mission of the IU Northwest Non-Profit Institute (NPI) is to provide education, research, and technical assistance that will increase capacity and sustainability of non-profits for fund development, service provision, outcome measurements, and impact throughout Lake County.
NPI provides:
- One on one capacity building in the areas of: Grantwriting, Grant Review, Fundraising, Program Design, Evaluation, Organizational Development and Volunteer Management
- Professional Development for Staff, Volunteers and Board Members
- Experiental Learning with Interns, Faculty and Service-Learning
- Networking and Collaboration
Non-Profit Institute at Indiana University Northwest
Lake Area United Way co-founded with Indiana University Northwest the Non-Profit Institute in late-2005 to strengthen non-profit organizations, particularly those serving children, families, and people with disabilities. This initiative is also sponsored by the IU Northwest Center for Regional Excellence, the IU Northwest Library and GRANTS Inc. The Institute is led by Debbie G. Thomas, Ph.D., Executive Director, Center for Regional Excellence, and Sandra Bowie, Program Manager, Non-Profit Institute and Executive Director of Grants, Inc.
