Recent Updates:
Final Report; Botts, Lee - The Resoration Revolution in Northwest Indiana, and Northwest Indiana Conservation/Restoration Projects Map (to accompany The Resoration Revolution in Northwest Indiana).

The Northern Indiana Consortium for the Environment (NICE) is a consortium of IU Northwest and its Center for Regional Excellence (CRE), Purdue University Calumet, Purdue University North Central, Valparaiso University, Calumet College of St. Joseph, and Ivy Tech Community College promoting economic development through environmental restoration.

After several years of meetings with academic, governmental, business, environmental, and not-for-profit partners, the presidents and chancellors of 6 colleges and universities have signed a memorandum of understanding; their working groups have established NICE. This Consortium will become the front door for environmental concerns for constituents, a partnership among six or more campuses of IU and Purdue and other colleges and universities, for the benefit of those institutions and regional partners.

Academic partners are participants in the Quality of Life Council (academic institutions, government leaders, corporate and non-profit institutions). Governmental partners include Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission and its Environmental Policy Committee, Northwest Indiana Forum and its Environmental Committee, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, and US EPA Region 5. Save the Dunes Council is a non-profit partner. Potential partners include Mittal Steel, U S Steel, BP Amoco, and NiSource. Partners will have representation on an Advisory Board.

Northwest Indiana GIS Forum will provide geographic information systems services such as electronic mapping, spatial information, archiving. This project will work collaboratively with Purdue University's business incubator in Merrillville . Additional partners may include the Purdue Center for the Environment, the Purdue–Calumet Water Institute, Purdue North Central's Biological Research Station, IU South Bend's Northern Indiana Center for Environmental Research (NICER), relevant divisions of regional municipalities, the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant Environmental Program (PUC), Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (National Park Service), the Nature Conservancy, Lake County Parks, and the Purdue University Center for Regional Development.
