Lake County was formally organized February 15, 1837, with the town of Liverpool originally designated as the county seat. County court business was conducted in a the private home of Milo Robinson. County leaders thought Robinson's home was accessible by most the citizens. This area later became the county seat and given the name of Crown Point by George Earle, the county agent, and Judge Clark and one of the first people to settle in the area in 1835, Solon Robinson. Lake County has ten townships and is 45th in the alphabetic order of counties in the state of Indiana.
