The Ernie Hernandez Papers comprise original copies of news dispatches written by Mr. Hernandez while serving as Post-Tribune war correspondent in Vietnam in 1966. The stories describe soldiers from northwest Indiana and their assignments and duties in Vietnam, including combat. They offer a vivid picture of the war during early stages of escalation and provide useful information on local servicemen. The collection contains many negatives and photographs taken by Mr. Hernandez, usually in conjunction with his news stories; the photographs have been described using the soldiers' surnames in the dispatches.
