Note: This collection contains two major series of drafts of books, co-authored by Dr. Mohl: The Paradox of Progressive Education and Steel City: Urban and Ethnic Patterns in Gary, Indiana, 1906-1950. The arrangement parallels the chapter of Steel City and Paradox; the researcher should be aware that these files may contain copies of articles and/or citations to sources used in writing the particular chapter of Steel City. Many of these files contain related correspondence. in addition, this collection includes research notes gathered by Drs. Mohl and Betten (which detail basic information on population, ethnic statistics, and politics) as well as an extensive series of articles on Gary (industry, steel, Gary Works, Gary libraries, Gary transportation), blacks and other ethnic groups, and the Gary schools, Finally, the collection comprises reports form the Dept. of Labor, the Lake County Auditor, and Lake County Welfare Dept.
