Meeting: 18 October 2002
LCC 115 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
PRESENT: C. Scott (Chair), J. Gerzema, R. Kini, J. Knapp, S. Pudar-Hozo, T. Stabler, and M. Uncapher and D. Steward, ex officio.
ABSENT: N. DeLeon, C. Wood, ex officio.
- The committee first revisited the Fall laboratory build and M. Uncapher informed us that things remained okay. There has been little need to reghost the labs.
- The committee examined the desirability of adding Service Pack 1 of Windows XP to the build and decided that it was best to wait until the Spring build, as there are some changes to the look of the operating system built into the Service Pack.
- M. Uncapher reported that a small theft problem existed in the Mac labs on the 4 th floor of Hawthorn. Several optical mice had been stolen recently. M. Uncapher and J. Gerzema would meet with the appropriate users and discuss ways to control the problem.
- V.C. Steward reported new machines had been placed in the R212 Mac lab and in the Library 230 GIS lab. The new equipment brought the labs up to the needed levels of operability.
- M. Uncapher reported that there had been excessive printing taking place in many labs, and that the reason for it seems tied to the use of course CD's and textbooks on CD. A number of people were printing large sections of the books, etc. This issue will be monitored by IT and reported back at our next meeting.
- Several incidents of network slowness were brought to the committee's attention. This is attributed to the type of wiring that exists in our buildings, and to some recurrent problems at IUPUI, our portal to the internet. IT will monitor the problem and report back at the next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 11:55 a.m.
