Indiana University Northwest |
Because service-learning is a pedagogical strategy, service-learning at Indiana University Northwest, is housed within the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). CETL staff are available to help faculty identify service-learning opportunities and integrate service-learning into their teaching. CETL also offers workshops and other events related to service-learning. The Mission of the Center for Regional Excellence (CRE) is to foster learning, scholarship, discovery, creativity, and service, in the areas of Cultural Discovery and Learning and Sustainable Regional Vitality, in collaboration with the communities we serve : Cultural Discovery and Learning is dedicated to exploring our regional cultures through diverse perspectives and forms of expression; Sustainable Regional Vitality engages IU Northwest and the broader community in understanding how the constituencies of our complex region interact to support the region's ability. Office of Career Services assists students and alumni in planning for successful careers and securing meaningful employment and/or entrance into graduate study that best uses academic backgrounds, skills and interests. Service Philosophy of Career Services – An Enrollment Services Unit. As members of a student-centered campus, we make the commitment to provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service and assistance in support of the University's Shared Vision, Values, and Strategic Outcomes. Career Services provides assistance to students and alumni in: • the career decision-making process through interest testing, counseling and experiential learning opportunities • individual advising/counseling in the areas of career planning/counseling, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills assisting undecided students with choosing majors and searching for federal work study positions • a career resource library for obtaining career information and researching employers • developing job seeking skills through seminars and individualized preparation • planning and executing a targeted job search • providing opportunities to interview with employers • access to job fairs and career days sponsored by IUN and other organizations in the region • candidate referral of registered students and alumni to employers with professional personnel needs • access to job listings online • assistance with decision-making about and application to graduate study. |
Non-Profit Institute |
Non-Profit Institute (NPI) is to provide education, research, and technical assistance that will increase capacity and sustainability of non-profits for fund development, service provision, outcome measurements, and impact throughout Lake County. NPI provides: One on one capacity building in the areas of: Grantwriting, Grant Review, Fundraising, Program Design, Evaluation, Organizational Development and Volunteer Management; Professional Development for Staff, Volunteers and Board Members; Experiental Learning with Interns, Faculty and Service-Learning; Networking and Collaboration. |

The key role of the Office of Career Development at Purdue University North Central is to guide, support, and assist students in their career planning and professional development activities. In addition to career development, we are committed to providing Service Learning opportunities to students and faculty which will enhance their learning through community service and community engagement. |
United Way Regional Volunteer Center |
The three United Ways of Lake, Porter and LaPorte County have formed the United Way Regional Volunteer Center (UWRV) that promotes volunteerism throughout Northwest Indiana . The Center hosts a website, accessed through each county's United Way site, that details volunteer opportunities for local nonprofits. Professors and students can connect with the nonprofits for service learning and experiential learning opportunities and once volunteering, this site has the ability for the student to log their hours online in order to track them and create reports. Access this website through www.lauw.org if you are in Lake County ; www.unitedwaypc.org if you are in Porter County ; or www.unitedwaylpc.org in LaPorte County . The Volunteer Center can also arrange service projects for groups wishing to complete a project together. |
