Dr. Zoran Kilibarda, Assistant Professor from the Department of Geosciences, have been teaching for over 20 years at seven different universities before becoming a full time tenure track Assistant Professor at Indiana University Northwest in the fall semester 2003. He received Founders Day Teaching Award in 2007 and Trustee's Teaching Awards in 2005 and 2007 and was recognized in the newest edition of Who's Who Among America's Teachers. This year of 2008, he was awarded with IU Northwest Research/Creative Activity and inducted into FACET.
Dr. Kilibarda's priority in classroom is to actively engage students in the learning process. He tries to relate various geology topics to everyday life and actual experiences. When some of his Fine Arts students commented about why dolomite is added to clay to make a certain kind of pottery, he felt good about providing them a better undeirstanding of familiar situations. He has taken his students on many field trips, throughout state of Indiana, neighboring states of Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin, and to geologically interesting areas of Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nevada. For many of his students the field trips were not only geological but also great cultural and social experiences.

Zoran Kilibarda

Associate Professor of Geosciences

Dr. Kilibarda's research with undergraduates is an area where he excelled in the last several years. He says that doing the research in Geosciences is a real joy. In the last four years, he has worked with nine students on different projects, ranging from NW Indiana's sand dunes, central and southern Indiana limestones, to international studies in carbonates of Bahamas and Montenegro. From such team-based projects, they presented collaborative work at several conferences and, so far, produced two publications.
