Gain community development work experience in a variety of social service / case management learning activities.

• Mission:
  • We Care From the Heart a non-profit 501(c) with an office in Hammond and East Chicago. The mission of We Care From the Heart is to provide information, outreach supportive services and advocacy, through case management, for individuals and families seeking services to improve their lifestyles while maintaining their independence and dignity. Our goal is to increase the organizational capacity and fundraising skills of agencies serving senior citizens and persons with developmental disabilities in Northwest Indiana.
• Seeking:
  • We Care From the Heart is seeking undergraduate and graduate level students from the School of Social Work and others with a public sector interest. Students must have a genuine desire to make a direct impact on those in our community. Students must have the opportunity to gain valuable practical, hands-on, skills in the area of: non-profit management, grant writing, community organizing, case management, and organizing special events. We Care From the Heart is seeking innovative, self-directed, students who would like to participate in the following types of projects:
    • Grant research and proposal writing for a variety of subject areas: health, social services, homelessness, disparity, seniors in crisis and the developmental disabled.
    • Event planning for our Annual Black Tie Affair on November 14, 2008. This is an event for our seniors and developmental disabled NWI residents to honor them and give them their night on the town.
    • Intake and Case management evaluation.
    • Field Work / Home Visits.
• Skills: Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. (PowerPoint & Publisher a plus).
• Term: Summer and Fall semester 2008.
• Car transportation is a plus.
