Job Description:
Gain community development work experience in a variety of experiential learning activities.

GRANTS Inc. is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 with the mission to increase the organizational capacity and fundraising skills of agencies serving children, families and persons with disabilities in Northwest Indiana. GRANTS Inc. is Co-Administer of the IU Northwest Non-profit Institute in conjunction with the IU Northwest Center for Regional Excellence. NPI provides such services as: one-on-one capacity building, professional development trainings in areas of:  grantwriting, program design/implementation, funding databases, volunteer management, evaluation, resource development. Its annual fundraiser in the Open House & Resource Fair which attracts over 300 community and business exhibitors for a day of networking, training and workshops.

GRANTS Inc. is seeking undergraduate and graduate level students from the following disciplines: School of Social Work, School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Business, Arts and Sciences, and others with a public sector interest. Students must have a genuine desire to make a direct impact in the sustainability of non-profits in Northwest Indiana. Students have the opportunity to gain valuable practical, hands–on, skills in the areas of:  non-profit management, grantwriting, community organizing, evaluation, and special events, while incorporating academic theory.

GRANTS Inc. is seeking innovative, self-directed, students who would like to participate in this the following types of projects:

  • Grant research and proposal writing for a variety of subject areas:  health disparity, technical assistance and capacity building, leadership, neighborhood revitalization,  and youth.
  • Event planning for launch of United Way Regional Volunteer Center Day of Caring in Lake County on August 22, 2008. The Day of Caring is an all day event focused on promoting volunteerism and civic engagement by participating in hands-on activities at local non-profits.
  • Evaluation development and analysis of current programs.
  • Participate in the creation of a county-wide minority health coalition.

Must be proficient in web-based research, Microsoft Word and Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher.  Term: Summer and Fall semester 2008. Time commitment is mutually agreed upon by student and GRANTS Inc. Car transportation is a plus.
