Tax Accountant Intern

Job Description:

  • Internship Description:
    • Accounting Internships will be responsible for utilizing educational knowledge and experience to perform numerous tax and audit related responsibilities; preparation of a variety of tax returns and financial statements, conducting tax research and other appropriate or related financial reports, and responding to tax inquires from clients and from government notices. The intern will undergo extensive training which highlights tax research methods and techniques, individual tax planning procedures, computer hardware and software applications, and payroll tax system and filing requirements. This opportunity is available for accounting majors only.
  • Principle Responsibilities and Duties:
    • Prepare individual, corporate, partnership and non-for-profit tax returns to meet government requirements and deadlines and client expectations.
    • Prepare individual tax projections to ensure proper tax planning for the client.
    • Prepare payroll tax reports and property tax reports to ensure compliance.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of individual and corporate tax laws.
    • Respond orally and in writing to various tax inquiries from internal and external clients and from government notices.
    • Maintain working knowledge of tax preparation software used in the office.
    • Perform other accounting duties as necessary to meet the responsibilities of the position and client expectations.
    • Perform all Payroll Functions.
    • Assist with Maintenance and modification to company budget.
    • Promote new business.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Requires substantial progress toward obtaining an advanced degree (including, at a minimum, completion of corporate or individual taxation class).
    • Above average competency in accounting as demonstrated by college GPA, and on-the-job performance of duties.
    • Demonstrated ability to think independently and make good decisions based on education and experience.
    • Above average communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients and staff.
    • Use of various software packages for tax preparation and office applications. Applications may include data entry, development of various spreadsheets, researching and retrieving information from the Internet, and other uses.
    • Working knowledge of tax research tools and techniques.
    • Ability to prioritize work, follow through on requests, take initiative and meet deadlines.
    • Be familiar with and apply the pronouncements of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the AICPA, such as the Statements on Auditing Standards (SAS) and Accounting Principles Board (APB) opinions.
  • Required Major / Degree:
    • Accounting Majors only.
    • Prospective interns must be in their senior year of college or more and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
    • Completion of Introduction to Taxation and Advanced Income Tax preferred.
  • Required Qualifications:
    • The requirements are: US citizens and have an overall 3.0 GPA.
    • We are looking for an intern that has excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff.
    • The intern must pay close attention to detail, have the ability to work independently with minimal direction, computer proficient and have excellent work ethics.
  • Training:
    • Interns attend a two-week training program to become familiar with Consuella’s Accounting & Tax Service audit and tax programs. Throughout the internship the tax intern will receive excellent training and mentoring, build professional networks, while applying accounting and business skills in real time and actual cases.
  • Duration:
    • This position is available January 1st through March 15th or April 18th of each year.
    • Exceptional candidate has the opportunity for long term employment potential.
  • Compensation Details / Other Benefits:
    • This is a paid position or academic credit(s) may be offered.
    • Based pay is from $9.00- $13.00 per hour plus bonuses.
    • Flexible hours during the school year (approximately 15-35 hrs per week).
    • Evening and Saturday hours availability a plus.
