Course Changes to the MBA Program

Recently, the faculty of the School of Business and Economics made course changes to the MBA program as follows:

The MBA Foundation (prerequisite courses need to prepare for the MBA Core) is now 15 credit hours (5 classes). The classes are:

A512 – Statistical Tools for Management

A514 – Economics for Managers

A515 – Organizational Behavior

B511 – Marketing Management

B512 – Financial Management

The MBA Core (courses taken by all MBA candidates) has undergone the following changes:

A510 – Management Communications has been removed from the program and has been replaced with B513 – Operations Management. It was determined there is sufficient coverage of oral and written communication skills within the context of the MBA Core and thus there was no merit for a specific course in the subject. Additionally, there was a desire to increase the quantitative coursework within the MBA Core. Here is a list of MBA Core courses under the new requirements:

A513 – Accounting for Decision Making

A516 – Management Information Systems

B513 – Operations Management

B514 – Business Law and Ethics

C515 – Advanced Marketing

C517 – Financial Management Analysis

G514 – Human Resource Management

D511 – Integrative Capstone Course

One International MBA Elective

One General MBA Elective

These changes will take effect with the 2005-2006 academic year. All newly admitted MBA candidates will fall under these new requirements. Current MBA candidates may choose to enter the new requirements but they are not required to do so. Those students wishing to remain under their original requirements will be strongly advised to take A510 – Management Communications in the spring semester of 2006.

Students are advised to contact John Gibson, Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Programs for the School of Business and Economics if they have any questions.
