If you major in biology, life can be very fulfilling! Here’s just a short list of the things that can (not necessarily will) happen as a biology major: Make discoveries, save lives, meet great people, earn good money, travel the world, conserve habitats and preserve biodiversity. Below, are even more things that studies in biology at IU Northwest offers.
First, biology majors gain skills usable most anywhere like being able to…
- Generate new ideas
- Solve difficult problems
- Conduct needed research
- Interpret and evaluate data
- Write well
- Give great presentations
- Make calculations
- Collaborate with others
- Know life and the environment
Second, biology majors do things like…
- A cancer doctor (also known as an oncologist) meets a patient with all the symptoms of having a well-developed cancer. The doctor orders more analysis of the patient’s blood and consults the patient and family on the treatment options. The explanation of life and death is this doctor’s expertise.
- A marine biologist dives from a boat into the warm, shallow waters around a coral reef looking for a rare sea squirt. After swimming past a reef shark and a green sea turtle, the biologist counts a school of barracuda that circles just off the reef. Determining how fast these sea creatures grow is the key to this biologist’s discovery.
- A cell biologist has just cultured a new line of tissue cells. The experiment that follows can alter muscle and nerve development and might serve as an entirely new field of biotechnology. This biologist imagines the excitement of tomorrow’s result as well as starting a new biotech company.
Third, many possible job titles can be attainable by biology major including…
