January 6

On Saturday, January 6, the Redhawks were victorious on their homecourt versus IU East in a record-setting contest 129-76. The first half score was an incredible 82-27 as every player displayed great energy and teamwork. The Redhawks shot an amazing 31-44 in that opening half, including 12-14 from the 3-point line. 

Leading the way for the Redhawks was Justin Ortiz's triple double of 23 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals.  Game-high scorer was Pete Trgovich (Munster) with 33 points, 11 rebounds and 4 steals.  Josh Percifield added 13 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Alex Campbell had 17 points, 4 assists and 6 steals. Brad Smith scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double double. Sean Jopling added 9 points and 4 shot blocks. Josh Stanley (Portage) scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Redhawks next home game will be Saturday, January 13 at 3:00 p.m. against East / West University.  Go RedHawks!!

January 13

On Saturday, January 13, the Redhawks men's basketball team were beaten at the wire by the visiting East / West University Phantoms 81-78. Josh Percifield's 3-point attempt at the buzzer, which would have tied the game, rimmed in and out. The Redhawks lost a hard-fought battle, but again played very well, only turning the ball over 13 times and shooting 44% for the game, and outrebounding their opponents 39-38.

Freshman Josh Stanley (Portage) led the way for the Redhawks with 20 points and 13 rebounds.  Senior Sean Jopling (League City, TX) also had a nice game with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Brad Smith (Lanesville) added 12 points and Josh Percifield (Utah) added 13 points on 3/6 3 point shooting. Pete Trgovich (Munster) scored 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds along with 4 steals. Alex Campbell (Sweden) added 5 rebounds and 5 assists, and Justin Ortiz (Portage) dished out 7 assists.

It was another tremendous total team effort for the Redhawks as they continue to improve their play. The Redhawks travel Friday January 19 to Taylor Fort Wayne and on Saturday January 20 to Indiana University East in Richmond. The next home game for the Redhawks is Wednesday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. versus the Andrews University Cardinals.

January 24

On January 24th, the IU Northwest Redhawks men's basketball team were victorious over the visiting Cardinals of Andrews University 73-71. The Redhawks' second-half defense held Andrews to 39% shooting and forced 18 turnovers en route to the victory for the shorthanded hometeam.

All five Redhawk starters contributed terrificly to the win, led by senior center Sean Jopling (Texas) with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Justin Ortiz (Portage) scored 16 points and collected 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals. Alex Campbell (Sweden) added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Brad Smith (Lanesville) had 15 points and 5 assists. Josh Stanley (Portage) had 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Altogether, the Redhawks shot 51% for the game, outrebounded their opponents 33-28, and shot 15 / 18 from the free throw line. This game saw many lead changes and a dramatic comeback by the Redhawks as they were down by as many as 16 in the second half.

The next home games for the Redhawks are Thursday February 1st at 7:00 p.m. versus Moody Bible Institute and Friday February 2nd at 7:00 p.m. versus Taylor Fort Wayne. Go RedHawks!!
